Evaluating Articles
If you haven't gone through the section on Evaluating Your Sources, please go there now and then return to Finding Articles-Evaluating
Below we review an example of how to evaluate an article from its description in a database.
Looking at the full text of the article to evaluate it:
- Skim for reading level. Is this something your professor would read or recommend?
- Check the author's credentials to evaluate their experience or education in the field.
- Check for a bibliography or references which might indicate level of scholarship.
As you read the article continue to evaluate the author's ideas and arguments.
Now that you've evaluated your article, if you've decided to use it, you'll need to cite it.
