Citing Your Sources

- Helps prevent plagiarism

- Separate your ideas from the ideas of others
- Gives your work credibility and authority
When to Cite
- Whenever you quote, paraphrase, summarize or borrow ideas from the work of others
- Any source or any format you borrow from
How to Cite
- Keep track of your resources as you go. Author, title, and publication details are always needed.
- Keep track of the quotes you use and which source they came from
- Know what citation style your professor requires (example: MLA, APA, Chicago, etc.)
- Layout of the citation varies by discipline and format of the cited work
