The Assignment
According to the syllabus, for your research paper, you are required to have:
- At least 5 books, journal articles, or magazine articles (your textbook doesn't count).
- At least 2 internet resources.
How can you find these? Take a look around this page for librarian recommendations, or get in touch with me (Emily, the theatre librarian) using my contact info:
You can use the search box above to locate books and videos in the library's collection, plus articles from many (though not all) of our databases.
(It searches exactly the same content as the search box on the library homepage.)
You might also want to try searching:

Not Finding Anything on Your Topic?
Here are several things you can try:
1. Check your spelling.
It's annoying, but even the difference between "theatre" and "theater" matters to a lot of library databases.
2. Try making your search broader.
Say you were searching for French women playwrights of the 1800s.
What would be broader than that? How about one of these:
- French women playwrights
- French playwrights of the 1800s
- Women playwrights of the 1800s
A book about any of those broader topics might very easily contain a chapter about your more specific topic--but often there's no way of knowing until you open the book and look at it.
3. Try searching other libraries beyond Penfield.
This sounds trickier than it is (and no, you won't have to visit those other libraries to get the materials).
Just search WorldCat to find out what materials are out there!
Then you can use interlibrary loan to have the materials delivered to you.
