Background Information: New Companies
If you're investigating a new company, information can sometimes be hard to come by. That doesn't mean it's impossible though. Information is almost always out there if you look in the right places. In addition to searching the library's databases for articles, we recommend searching in current periodicals and on business websites. Here are a few good places to start:
- ForbesClick on the magnifying glass at the top of the page and search for articles about your company. Forbes includes 200 Best Small Companies, 400 Best Big Companies, Forbes 500s, Largest Private Companies, and more!
- The Wall Street JournalLook for articles about your company in this business-focused daily newspaper. You can limit your search by company name, person, or publication date.
- Company websitesUsually, even small, new companies will have an online presence. Try Googling them to see if they have a website. If they do, look for people's names on the staff directory or contacts page and reach out to them directly.
Still not able to find any background information about your company? Ask your professor or librarians for help.
