Research Methods

How Do I Request a Book Through ILL?

If Penfield doesn’t have a book that you’re looking for, you can request through Interlibrary Loan (ILL).

Before you can request a book through ILL, you’ll need to sign up for it.

Search the Library’s catalog for your topic or your specific book.  If Penfield owns the book, it will say that it is available.

ILL Book Page

You can start out searching just Penfield Library, but if you’re not finding enough, you can easily begin to search other libraries by selecting “Quick Delivery” or “Worldwide Libraries”

Books that are either checked out or not owned by Penfield will say

You’ll then need to click on the “Get it Soon” button, and then log in with your ILL account.

The information we need about your book will be automatically filled in.  Take a look at the options and feedback boxes on the right and be sure the information is accurate.

All you need to do now is “Submit Request.”

After you submit the request, you can track its status by logging into your ILL account in the “View Outstanding Requests” section.

If we receive the book, ILL will send you an email letting you know it is available to pick up at the Circulation Desk in Penfield Library.

If we cannot get a copy of the book, we will also email you.
