Technology Toolbox: Concept Maps

This Libguide contains a list of websites and applications to enhance projects. Please contact the Learning Technologies Librarian for additional help or questions.

What are these?

A concept map or mind map can be a good way to get your ideas into groups before you start writing. All of these have similar properties. You just need to find the one that works for you.

LucidChart

Lucid Chart is a web-based application useful for making flow charts, Venn diagrams, mind maps, and wireframes.

Account: Sign up required. A free account is available to students. Sign up for the 30-day free trial and click on the green box that says "educational account." Make sure you use your oswego.edu email when you sign up.

Exobrain

Exobrain is a web-based, click and drag concept mapping tool.

Free, but account is required.

bubbl.us

bubbl.us is a simple tool similar to Exobrain, but you click on the nodes rather than click and drag.

No account needed, but it is an option if you want to save your maps and come back later.

Text2MindMap

For those people who prefer to think in both words and pictures, Text2MindMap does just that. You type your ideas in outline form, and the application draws it for you. You can download .pdfs of your map. If you would like to save it, the program does so with an email link.

Account: None. Just go to the website and start mapping.
