Library of Congress Call Numbers

Most library materials have call numbers that are used to shelve them in a particular location and order in the library.  It is this call number that people use to locate needed materials.  Because you will be helping people locate these materials, it is important for you to be able to accurately read call numbers and know where different collections are located in the library.

We use the Library of Congress call number classification system at Penfield Library.  Watch the video below to learn more about the LC system.  After watching the video, use the LC Easy program on the Research Help Desk computers to learn more about LC call numbers and test your skill using them.

The LC Easy program is located on the Research Help Desk computers. Look for the  icon on the desk to of these computers. Have fun!
