Curriculum Mapping

Purpose of this guide

The purpose of this guide is to assist librarians new to instruction with mapping out the most logical courses on which to focus their instruction efforts.

Why do curriculum mapping?

Curriculum mapping is done for several reasons:

  • It helps you focus on the learning outcomes for the class based on the level of the class, and the level of instruction needed.
  • It will help you assess your teaching and student learning after the desired learning outcomes are determined.
  • It will help you strategize and focus on the courses best suited for information literacy instruction (efficiency and effectiveness).
