Methods
- Describe how you addressed the problem using as much detail as possible
- Don’t need to include common methods, but should include changes to a common method or novel methods. When in doubt, include it.
- Cite references to sources that use your same method
- Unlike papers in in other science disciplines, geology papers do not require detailed description of materials used.
- Do not list results of analyses. One of the biggest mistakes made in this section is to list the results of the methods. When you proofread your paper, you should pay particular attention to this.
- For an example of a methods section from a research paper, see the following article: Herrle, J. O., Schröder-Adams, C. J., Davis, W., Pugh, A. T., Galloway, J. M., & Fat, J., 2015, Mid-Cretaceous High Arctic stratigraphy, climate, and Oceanic Anoxic Events: Geology, v.43, p.403-406.
