President Nwosu has said that his vision for SUNY Oswego includes making us an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Campus.
According to Oswego's official Artificial Intelligence page, that means:
"We envision a campus that safely, ethically, and sustainably integrates AI technologies across teaching, learning, research, and administration in alignment with our values of diversity, equity, inclusion, innovation, and student success. We aim to explore AI’s vast possibilities and encourage all community members to consider how this powerful technology can enhance our daily work and empower our community to achieve our strategic goals."
In late 2024, SUNY added language about AI to the Information Literacy Core Competency in its general education requirements (with which Oswego must comply). The highlighted additions below go into effect in Fall 2026:
Students will
- locate information effectively using tools appropriate to their need and discipline;
- evaluate information from a variety of sources with an awareness of authority, validity, bias, and origin; and
- demonstrate an understanding of the ethical dimensions of information use, creation, and dissemination, whether from traditional sources or emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence.
Guidance
Students need to acquire information literacy appropriate to the demands of the 21st century, which includes applying all three learning outcomes of this core competency to various sources of information, including emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence.
