Find books & place a hold

If you would prefer to pick up your books at the Check-Out & Reserves Desk rather than go up to the shelves, you can request them through the library catalog by following the steps below. This is also called placing a hold

Note: Only current students, faculty, and staff can place items on holds.

It typically takes our staff 1-3 business days to process these requests. If you need your book today, we recommend you get it from the shelves yourself by following the instructions on the Find books on the shelf page.

Unfortunately, the third floor aisles are not wide enough to accommodate mobility aids, though we are working on this. If this prevents you from retrieving the item yourself, please email or call (315-312-4267) the Check-Out & Reserves Desk.

  1. Once you've found a book, make sure it's available. I'll use Nnedi Okorafor's The Book of Phoenix as our example - you can see in the screenshot below that it is available. If it is available, click on the title.

  2. Click on the sign in link and login with your Laker NetID and password.

  3. Click the link that says Request for pick-up (1-3 days for Oswego campus, up to 7 days for Syracuse campus).

  4. Make sure the box next to "Pick-up at the Syracuse campus" is unchecked. Add any comments if necessary (where it says Comment), and click the Send Request link.

  5. That's it! You will receive an email when the book is ready for you to pick up.
