The 2022 Nelson Memo directs that federally funded research should be made available to the public. One way that many authors achieve this is by sharing preprints of their articles--completed drafts that have not yet undergone peer review.

Reading Journal Articles

Reading articles from scholarly journals can be challenging, especially if you're not used to reading them.  Here are some tips to make it easier:

AI tools also exist that will read and summarize articles for you, but think of it like this: If someone makes a 2-minute YouTube video retelling your favorite movie, will you get as much out of watching the 2-minute video as you would out of watching your favorite movie?

If you do decide to use an AI tool to summarize an article for you, try reading the summary and then going back and reading the original article to make sure you don't miss any important details or nuances.
